The 8th Baltic Psaltery Symposium

The 8th Baltic Psaltery Symposium will be held as a part of the international festival Kanklės Mano Rankose / “Kanklės in My Hands“ in Kaunas, Lithuania, March 8-10, 2017. The symposium and the concerts will happen at the concert hall, L. Zamenhofo str. 4, Kaunas.

The program of the symposium on the 9th of March:

10.00−13.00 Presentations:

Doc. Vytautas Alenskas (Klaipėda): Pranas Puskunigis’ influence to development of Lithuanian kanklės music.

Dr. Regina Marozienė (Šiauliai): Jeronimas Jankauskas’ kanklės klaviklės in Lithuanian kanklės development context.

Tuule Kann, dr. Ain Haas (Estonia): Vestiges of traditional playing styles among Estonian players of large kannels.

Dr. Arja Kastinen (Finnland): The Karelian small kantele tradition as a part of the runo song culture.

13.00─14.00 Lunch break

14.00−16.00 Presentations:

Galina Lobkova: Gusli playing traditions of Pskov and Novgorod (according the materials of expeditions, leaded by Anatolij Mechnetsov).

Daiva Morkūnienė (Lietuva): Kanklės playing traditions of The Abromavičiai family, the folk musicians of Žemaitija.

Dr. Laura Lukenskienė (Lietuva): Suvalkija kanklės playing tradition. Kanklės player Kazys Pečkys.

Concert „Silver strings“, dedicated to The Day of Restoration of Independence of Lithuania.

Participants: Pupils of Kaunas Juozas Gruodis conservatoire Lithuanian national music instruments department Gabija Tatlauskaitė (kanklės), Emilija Karaliūtė (kanklės), Neda Tomašauskaitė (kanklės), Kornelijus Grigaravičius (birbynė), accompanist Džiuljeta Sklėrienė, kanklės players Andrius Bakanas, Skalmantas Barkauskas, guests from Estonia, Finnland, Latvia, Russia.
