Kantele of the Runosong Culture and the Dialogue of Creativity
This is Arja Kastinen's research project, conducted as a visiting researcher in the Folk Music Department at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, from 15 September 2021 to 28 February 2026. The project examines kantele improvisation within the Finnish-Karelian runosong culture, exploring its various manifestations in the original context, and its potential in the modern era. This includes researching instruments, tunes, culture, history and improvisation.
